The Presentation in the Temple

The less formal aesthetic of the 14th century is evident in Simeon's uncovered hands and the baby's reaction to his approach. Anna is on the right, St. Joseph on the left with the basket of doves. The medieval altar, with mini-retable, refers to the sacrifice on the Cross for which the Christ Child came.
