Juan Martínez Montañes (sculptor) and Francisco Pacheco (polychromy), St. Joachim

1628-31
Seville Cathedral

The staff and characteristically bifurcated beard are common in portraits of St. Joachim, although the beard is more often white. The lamb also appears sometimes, in reference to his rejected offering at the Temple and his accepted offering later in the mountains.
