Detail of Rogier van der Weyden, Polyptych of the Nativity: The Magi at Mt. Victoriale

This part of the polyptych draws on the Magi's backstory in the Golden Legend. It shows the three Magi bathing and praying during their monthly pilgrimage to Mount Victoriale. It is the day of Christ's birth, and a star appears to them with the image of a child who tells them to travel to Judah to greet the newborn king.
