Crucifix

Circa 1150/1175
Rhenish or Mosan
National Gallery of Art

The corpus on this crucifix has the slightly bent arms, naked torso, and decorated skirt typical of late Romanesque; but the head is bent as in death, a more Gothic feature. Unusually, the scroll at the top has all the words described in scripture, not just "INRI."
