Marco del Buono Giamberti and Apollonio di Giovanni di Tomaso, The Story of Esther

Circa 1460-70
Tempera and gold on wood
Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rogers Fund, 18.117.2

The title notwithstanding, this is an image of only the wedding between Esther and Ahasuerus (Esther 2:17-18). On the left side, Ahasuerus (with the sceptre) leads his officials into the wedding feast. On the right side we see him giving Esther a ring (in the left arch), and then honoring her as she sits at table (in the right arch).
