Episodes from the Life of St. Lucy

Tempera on wood, gold ground
Metropolitan Museum of Art

This pair of panels illustrates key moments in St. Lucy's legend. On the left, the upper register depicts St. Lucy with her mother at St. Agatha's shrine; in the lower register, she gives alms to the poor. On the right, in the upper register she stands before the judge Paschasius; below, even pulled by a team of oxen she cannot be dragged to the bawdy house.
