The Infant Jesus of Prague

Wood, gesso, paint; glass eyes, painted head but no wig; fabric garments; baby size.
Church of the Virgen de la Natividad, Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico

Like the canonical Infant Jesus of Prague, this child-size santo wears an elaborate fabric gown and holds an orb in his left hand while blessing the viewer with his right. The chief difference is that he wears a sunburst diadem rather than a crown.

The orb is of one piece with the left hand, which has fused fingers. The figure is stiff and unsmiling.
