The Sarcophagus of Marcus Claudianus: Detail, St. Peter's water miracle

The two jailers in their pannonian caps are baptized by the water St. Peter strikes from the rock of his prison cell. Peter wears a tunic and toga and has the usual short, square beard. Sarcophagi of this period do not usually show him balding.
