Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri), The Death of St. Cecilia

1614
Fresco
Church of San Luigi dei Francesi

St. Cecilia is shown in the bath where her tortures began three days earlier. The photo does not clearly show the mark of the blade on her throat, the wound that has caused her death. Pope St. Urban the First stands at the right while an angel comes to the saint with the palm of martyrdom.

This is one of several large frescoes on the life of St. Cecilia by Domenichino in the St. Cecilia's chapel in the church.
