Niccolo di Liberatore ("L'Alunno"), Coronation of the Virgin: Detail, St. James the Less

The upper register of the predella has the twelve apostles reading from or presenting scrolls with Latin phrases from the Apostles' Creed. St. James's scroll is the seventh one. He reads it with the help of modern spectacles worn well down on his nose. The sixth apostle, St. Philip, is also in spectacles and faces Philip across a now blank central frame.
