School of Benozzo Gozzoli, The Virgin Gives Her Girdle to St. Thomas

15th century
Tempera on wood panel
Pinacoteca Vaticana, Rome

Covering two sequential moments, the artist has Mary handing Thomas the belt and Thomas taking it in his hands. The flowers in Mary's sarcophagus and the angels playing instruments are two details that derive ultimately from a sermon by John Damascene.
