Allegreto Nuzi
St. Ursula
1365
Tempera and gold on wood panel
Right wing of a triptych of the Virgin
Pinacoteca Vaticana, Rome.
The saint holds the red-cross banner that is one of her attributes, as well as the palm branch signifying her martyrdom. Unlike most images, this painting does not give her a crown, settling instead for a simple headband.
The left wing of the triptych has a portrait of St. George in Roman-style armor treading on a dragon that looks more like a serpent.
