St. Barbara?

17th century
Wood, polychrome
Cathedral of St. Mary, Pamplona, Spain

The palm branch in the saint's left hand signifies her status as a martyr. As usual with virgin martyrs, her hair is blond. The right side of the bodice is peeled back to show that the executioners have removed her breast. This was one of the tortures that St. Barbara endured, but the work does not include her traditional attribute, a tower with three windows. Another possible identification would be St. Agatha, who also suffered the loss of her breasts.
