The Widow's Mite

Jesus blesses the woman with his right hand in the "Old Believers" configuration, as in several of the other miracles in this series. In Mark 12:42-44 and Luke 21:1-4 Jesus commends the woman for putting "two mites, which make a farthing" into the Temple treasury: "Amen I say to you, this poor widow hath cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want cast in all she had, even her whole living."

This is one of the 13 mosaics along the upper band of the left wall of the nave that follow the life of Christ. See also a view of the entire left wall with commentary on the iconography of Jesus and the apostles in these mosaics.
