St. Ambrose

12th century
Façade, Basilica of St. Ambrose, Milan

As he stands before his throne with the episcopal mitre and crozier, St. Ambrose's right hand holds his attribute, a flail.

According to a guide distributed by the basilica, the façade was under construction from the beginning of the 11th century through the second half of the 12th. It is on that basis that I have estimated the date.
