St Francis of Paola Resuscitating a Dead Child
Oil on canvas
Church of St. Roch, Venice, Italy
St. Francis of Paola was famous for the many miracles by which he was said to have brought dead children and others back to life. Ricci also adds one of the many cripples cured by the saint (in the lower right corner) and a mother whose milk had dried up (behind him).
The putto above St. Francis holds his attribute, the word caritas in a sunburst. His other attributes are his staff, his white beard, and his habit with the hood turned up over the head.
