Jacopo Amigoni
St. Catherine and St. Andrew
Beginning of the 18th century
Altarpiece
Church of San Stae, Venice
St. Catherine of Alexandria's attribute is the wheel held by the putti at her right. She also holds a palm branch signifying her status as a martyr. She does not have the crown and blond hair common in her earlier portraits.
Andrew's attribute is the
cross saltire
on which he was crucified.
