Saint Gervasius

19th century
Wood, polychrome
Church of St. Gervais and St. Protais, Querrieu, France

The Golden Legend says St. Gervasius was "beaten with scourges of lead" until he died, so here his attribute is one of those scourges, cradled in the crook of his right arm.

The church also has a matching sculpture of St. Protasius. Correspondingly, in the crook of his right arm is the sword with which he was beheaded.
