The Martyrdom of Saints Centola and Helena
17th century
Cathedral of Saint Mary of Burgos, Burgos, Spain
St. Centola is the woman on the right whose breast has been cut off and who is about to be beheaded. St. Helena has come to offer her encouragement, for which she too will be put to death. The onlooker in the background is unidentified. He is probably not the prefect Eglisius, who ordered the executions, because of his unimportant cap and his position below the action.
