Madonna della Salute

Basilica of SS. Cosmas and Damian, Rome

As usual in Madonna della Salute images, the child places one hand on Mary's hand and points to her with the other.

This painting was retained when the 6th century basilica was reconstructed in the 13th century. At that time the image was repainted and the background altered to fit its new location above the main altar.
