St. Thomas Aquinas Aided by Saints Peter and Paul

The occasion pictured is recounted in the Golden Legend: "As on a night this glorious doctor was in his orisons and prayers, the blessed apostles Peter and Paul appeared to him and induced [instructed] him in holy scripture, and especially of the prophecy of prophets all entirely and holy." On the left the saint takes down one of the volumes of scripture in his study. On the right, the two apostles sit with him and explain the text he has chosen.
