David

Circa 1408/1410
Tempera on wood, gold ground

This is the usual iconography for David: the crown, the throne, and the harp. In this case the harp is pictured as the Renaissance instrument known as the "psaltery."

One of a set with Abraham, Noah, and Moses. Possibly they flanked an altarpiece.
