AD 230-250
Limestone and pigment
Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, Denmark, IN 2763

On the left the boy holds a small bird in his right hand and a cluster of grapes in his left. On the right the girl holds a duck (?) in her left hand and another grape cluster in her right. These are attributes that reappear in Madonna and Child paintings in the Renaissance.

The boy wears trousers in the Parthian style. The girl, slightly taller, wears a peplos in the Greek style with a necklace and earrings.
