The Sarcophagus of Marcus Claudianus: Detail: the cure of the blind man and the prediction of Peter's betrayal

The figure on the left is Christ, rubbing the blind man's eyes as specified in Mark 8:22-26.

The figure on the right is also Christ. He holds his right hand in a blessing gesture. Because of the rooster at his foot this scene is usually taken to be the one in which he predicts Peter's denial. But it could be the episode of John 21:15-19 in which he forgives Peter, with the rooster signifying what Peter is being forgiven for.

In his left hand Jesus holds an object that could be a purse or even an open scroll. No such object is mentioned in either the prediction episode or the episode of forgiveness.
