The Archangel Sealtiel
Wood painted and gessoed
Height: 9.5 in. (24 cm.)
Private collection
Sealtiel was believed to be the angel of Revelation 8:3 who stood before the Throne with a thurible (a censer hanging from a chain), so that is his attribute in most images. He is not usually pictured with a cope.
The statue's base is inscribed St. Seltiel, a variant spelling.
