Plautilla Bricci
St. Louis

Chapel of St. Denis, Church of St. Louis of France (San Luigi Francesi), Rome

The king is easily identified by the crown, sceptre, and fleurs-de-lis. The putto approaching with a palm branch would designate him as a martyr. The Roman Martyrology lists him as a "confessor," not a martyr. He did die while on crusade in North Africa, as suggested by the soldiers behind him, but it was an illness that brought him down.

Bricci also designed the chapel itself. She was the only female architect active in 17th-century France.
