The Apse in St. Paul Outside the Walls: Detail, St. James the Less
The lower register of the mosaic has two saints labeled James. I am assuming this one is James the Less (Jacobus Minor) because he is made to look substantially younger than the other one, who would be James the Greater (Jacobus Major). The scroll he carries reads LAUDAMUS TE, "we praise you," a phrase from the hymn Gloria in Excelsis Deo. The other apostles in the mosaic hold scrolls with other phrases from the hymn.
