Our Lady of Sorrows The diadem has lost one of its ten stars. The paint of the face and hands has mottled. Unlike some Oaxaca statues of the Our Lady of Sorrows, this one has no tears.
Local Name: La Madre de los Dolores. Basis for Identification: Hands
clasped in prayer, eyes cast upward, mature face,
sunburst diadem, blue robe. Other characteristics: Purple mantle. Site: Church of Santa María
de la Natividad (Preciosa Sangre de Cristo),
Teotitlán del Valle. Location: Left end of the retablo of the first large altar along the south wall of the nave (see note). Media and construction: Wood, gesso, paint, fabric clothing, tin or silver diadem. Eyes: glass. Size: About 3½
