The Life of St. Paul: Before Publius in Malta (?)

Circa 1857-60
Oil on canvas
Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, Rome

This is from a series of paintings by various artists that line the nave and transept of the basilica.

This appears to represent Acts 28:7-10, where Paul appears before Publius, the chief of the island of Malta. Publius is the only official mentioned in Acts after the previous painting in the series, the apparition of Jesus. Publius lets them stay on the island a few days, and during that time Paul heals the chief's father of a fever and dysentery.
