The Jonah Sarcophagus: Detail, the fisherman

In the composition of this scene the arc formed by the man, rod, and caught fish are echoed in the posture of the bird and whatever that is in its beak. The scene teems with living things: the fish, the crab, the snail (above the rod), the salamander (here only partly seen at the left margin, above Jonah's hands).
