Christ as Helmsman
Some paleo-Christian images have Jesus as the helmsman of a ship occupied by Apostles or the evangelists. One such is a sarcophagus fragment in the Museo Pio Cristiano in the Vatican. It is copyrighted but has been available for viewing at this page of the museum's site (retrieved 2021-12-20). Cartlidge and Elliott (61-63) provide a brief overview of this genre and print the passage from the Acts of Andrew and Matthias in which Christ steers the boat taking Andrew to the city of the Myrmidons to rescue Matthias.
