1390s
Tempera and gold leaf on panel
The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles

This image follows the iconography that developed in the second half of the 14th century. Christ reaches over to place the crown on Mary's head. Both are seated on a single double-wide throne attended by angels. The standard background for altarpiece images in this century is gold ground.
