The Arma Christi
1450-1500
Fragment of a stained glass window
Metropolitan Museum of Art, Acquisition No. 12.210.1a-bb
In a composite window that was assembled by an art dealer in the early 20th century, this panel is at the top. The three shields held by the angels picture some of the "Arma Christi": left to right, the pillar and whips from the flogging; the nails and crown of thorns; and Christ's pierced hands and heart.
