The mosaic has some features characteristic of early and Orthodox images – the veil, the throne, the swirling garments on the angel, and what appears to be a basket of thread on the right. More western and medieval are the book, the vase of flowers, Mary's hand-on-breast gesture, the dove on the light beam, and the face of the Father in the upper margin.
