The banderole reads post edomades vii et lxii occidetur chrstus, "After seven and sixty-two weeks the Christ will be killed." The Latin is taken from Daniel 9:25-26. Christian commentators took it to refer to the crucifixion of Jesus (Glossa Ordinaria, IV, 1615-18), the main subject of the fresco.
