Helper of Pinturicchio, The Visitation

1489-91
Fresco
Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo

This is the fifth and last in a series of frescos in the half-dome of the Basso della Rovere Chapel. Mary and Elizabeth are about to embrace. St. Joseph is on the left, identified by the beard and orange cape he wears in the fourth panel. He is rarely seen in Visitation images. The person on the right is presumably the man of the house, Zacharias.
